The essence of what has been passed down by the merchants and artisans of Osaka for 400 years, concentrated into three hours.
With its numerous waterways Osaka, the aqua metropolis, has been at the heart of Japanese commerce.
Sushi, Sakai knives and "Japan Blue" living indigo: tradition cultivated by the waterways of the "Nation's Kitchen" are woven together and presented to you as a single piece of story, its location, Osaka acting as the weft.
Within a temple embracing a registered cultural property located in the water city, three hours that belong to your family alone — and stay with you long after.

It was Osaka that promoted indigo, born in Awa, today's Tokushima Prefecture, and raised it into the nation's foremost trade through commerce and its waterways. As you walk through the noren half-curtains and slip into work robes dyed in this tranquil blue, the fast pace of ordinary life quietly loosens its hold — and your family is led toward a time to face your plain and simple self.

For centuries, this hall treasuring a registered cultural property has stood beside families through life's turning points — births, encounters, marriages, and farewells. Secluded from the bustling crowds, your family counts the prayer beads and joins the priest's voice — a calm moment.

A master who reached the highest rank in one of Kansai region's leading circles of calligraphy. Once a flight attendant welcoming guests aboard international flights, she speaks with each member of your family in English, without the need of an interpreter. The feelings of each family member, inspired by communication with the master, take shape as brushstrokes and gather as words portraying this very moment.

Alongside a rising chef trained at Tokyo, Naeba (Niigata) and abroad, the whole family shapes sushi by hand. Perfection is not the point — uneven pieces bring about smiles and laughter.

After cooking, the kitchen counter turns into a relaxed dining table. Ingredients in season the most each day gathered from all over Japan, including fruits of the sea drawn from Senshu waters of Osaka Bay are served one at a time, each piece offered at its finest. Spend a while to look back on the day, to talk, to laugh. A moment which warms up the hearts of your family members once again.

The characters your family assembled today represent your gathered feelings. To keep them close to you always, a Sakai master of the fifth generation forges a single piece of blade for your family, along with the characters arranged on a piece of calligraphy board. Ebony for the handle and carbon steel for the edge, each time the knife is taken up at the kitchen, this one day in Osaka is quietly recollected.
